Competition Help! Fiat and DC.

Uncategorized

hello!

From my previous post, I blogged about my recent competition entry for DC (which is still ongoing) but now I have another competition I need your help for!

This competition is for 500Patternize for Fiat. The competition required me to create a design for a Fiat 500. Again, to win, I need votes on facebook or their website which will take you to my design.

I need your help for both competitions and it would absolutely make my day if you could all vote and share the photographs! (for DC too!)

Here are the links for both competitions:

Fiat – http://500patternize.co.uk/ – go to vote and type in “Triangular Craze” and just Like the like the design!

DC Shoes – https://www.talenthouse.com/i/459/submission/137614/f969c4d2

Thank you for all your help!

Digitally Industrial

Design Work, final year, Photography, Textiles

My final year project was inspired by Glasgow’s Shipyards as they are a huge part of why Glasgow is the city it is today and also, played a huge part in the worlds trading industry. From previous posts, see my photography taken as part of my research stage as it shows my main inspirations and Glasgow’s memorable landmarks.

For my final year project, I took a modern twist on Glasgow’s historical background as well as keep a sense of nostalgia through certain areas of my designs but re-introducing elements of Glasgow’s shipyards through my design work. For example, I have featured blueprint elements combined with photographic print of the Finnieston Crane. I have 3 collections: paper both hand draw and printed designs and digitally printed wallpapers 3m at length, fabric collection including two 3m length wall hangings and finally, a wooden tile collection to keep the structural element which is shown throughout my entire project.

Here is a selection from the Glasgow Shipyards collection!

Industrial Skyline

Design Work, Sketchbook Work, Sketching/Drawing, Textiles

hello again! recently my life has been taken over by art school (DJCAD) because of the ever looming degree show, which is in less than 3 weeks! ahhh Scary thought but i can’t wait to finally exhibit my years work and final collections. I have a series of collections ranging from fabric wall hangings to digitally printed and hand printed wallpapers to a wooden collection. Each has it’s own style but each link with each other so as to create one large geometric collection.

Each collection I have created has been influenced from Glasgow’s Shipyards which frame Glasgow’s grand historical skyline! Glasgow is my home town and it seemed only fitting to explore its history in more detail. My project has been inspired by the large geometrical structures which include an array of cranes, machinery and ships. The intertwining cranes and machinery create a beautiful silhouette full of geometrical shapes, linear detailing and pattern which has inspired me to re-create a collection which exhibits Glasgow’s history through a series of modern design work.

Here is a sneak peak of some of my design work so far!

Photoshop Designs

Fashion, Textiles

Hello, for the outcome of my current project, I have to create a repeat pattern for a fashion context. I have been experimenting with Adobe Photoshop Elements in order to create a repeat so here are some of my outcomes!

This photograph is a section of the repeat that I have used. This sample has been created by hand cut paper, card and recycled scrap paper.

I recently found a photograph on PATTERNITY that I really love! It’s simple but very effective and I think it gives a lot of information for design. This photograph is from a piece of architecture (I think from the roof of a building).

I was really inspired from this photograph because I feel it suits my project extremley well and represents the geometric graphic print that I want to achieve in my final outcomes! Here are some sketches from sketchbook.

I used a selection of different papers for collage (recycled, heavy weight, light weight, newsprint etc) I really like this colour palette because it’s quite graphic but doesn’t have too many vibrant colours that would perhaps make it too intense. The next series of photographs are collage pieces that I was experimenting with today so that I could start to create my final outcomes. My main factors for these pieces were:

  • Placement
  • Colour
  • Geometrical Shapes
  • Repeat Design

As my brief is based for a fashion context, repeat pattern is very important and I feel the best key to an eye-catching graphic fashion print!

Pattern is EVERYWHERE!

Love, Photography, Textiles

Found this AMAZING site recently whilst I was browsing the web for some inspiration for my current project (which will be revealed soon!) This website is probably very well-known and I have no clue why it has took me this long to find it! It is…

PATTERNITY – Have a look!

Patternity is a creative consultancy that’s driven by the certainty that pattern is everywhere. This is very true! Everything in the world around you has some sort of pattern whether it be very small/faint/large and even pattern that is not immediately recognised. Things such as sections of architecture, cracked paving, windows…little things that you would normally pass by, have their own unique design.

As a company, they create things but also help other people create things. Their projects and innovations go beyond a 2D Image/surface and by using the application of pattern, they add substance and relevance to the aesthetic.

They have a wide range of clients ranging from High End Fashion houses to retailers and Universities.

Here are some interesting images I found interesting! – VERY hard to only show a few!

Community ZigZag //Patternity I really like this photograph because it has so much pattern that wouldn’t normally be noticed when the photograph would be taken! It’s amazing to see all the unique details hidden through the photograph.

I really like this dress! reminds me of Catwoman… but I love the way all the sections come together and the overall geometric design. I love geometric graphic pattern so this dress really caught my eye.

I love this site so far! I feel really inspired and I think the general style of the resources, photographs, patterns etc have really caught my eye because I have a similar style of work. Therefore, this is the kind of design that I am really drawn to and find really inspirational!
